I've had persistent problems related to NUT and the changes that occurred at v. 2.8.0.
I believe that the wiki may have incomplete or misleading information and I'm having trouble applying the basic steps to my system.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Network_UPS_Tools
The steps as I am understanding them...
1. Detect your specific UPS and add it to your /etc/nut/ups.conf.
This seems to be working properly.
2. Start the driver as root with upsdrvctl start.
This seems to be working correctly.
3. Start/enable nut-driver-enumerator.service which will automatically create nut-driver@<ups name> systemd service instance and start it.
This isn't working.
The enumerator does start the nut-driver@<ups name>, however the nut-driver exits with an error code.
I see this in systemd:
nut-driver@mycomputer-TL-UPS.service - Network UPS Tools - device driver for NUT device 'mycomputer-TL-UPS'
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/nut-driver@.service; enabled; preset: disabled)

The statement "Can't claim USB device [09ae:3016]@0/0/0: Entity not found" sounds suspiciously like the notes on the wiki page at 2.2.1, however I do have the udev rule and it's loaded.
I'm probably doing something wrong or misunderstanding the process and I'm hoping someone can help steer me in the right direction.
I'm also wondering if the @0/0/0 after the vendor/product IDs is correct.
Thanks!

Note that I am attempting to follow the directions exactly, so my rule looks like this:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="09ae", ATTR{idProduct}=="3016", GROUP="nut"
I am concerned about everything using a double equal sign "==" except GROUP.
My gut tells me they should all use the same operation.
Edit: I tried using a "==", reloading the udev rule and restarting the nut-driver@ service but it didn't correct the problem so I have reverted to the rule as shown in the wiki.
Edit: grammar
Edit: == is used to check for equality, while = is used to assign a value as mentioned here: https://www.reactivated.net/writing_udev_rules.html

I've continued my search for a solution to this problem, and I'm going to document my progress here.
In order to get a clearer understanding of what is happening with the UPS, I've tried monitoring udevadm and journalctl while connecting the UPS to a USB port on my computer.
Here's the output of "sudo udevadm monitor|grep 3016"

I'm seeing a lot of 'failed' and 'exit' but they're mostly associated with unrelated rules, so that doesn't seem strange to me.
This seems to be where it fails:
EDIT: In hindsight, I believe this isn't where it failed, but indicating that the UPS USB cable had been removed.

Dec 09 09:18:35 mycomputer2.1 upsd[937]: Data for UPS [mycomputer-TL-UPS] is stale - check driver
I do see the udev rule being loaded:
Dec 09 09:18:38 mycomputer2.1 (udev-worker)[133735]: 5-2: /etc/udev/rules.d/50-ups.rules:1 GROUP 965
However this occurs after the permissions error.
I may need to lower the number in the rule name to get it to load earlier, but I don't know if that would make a difference.
Maybe someone here can see anything obvious in these outputs to point me in the right direction.
I previously had this UPS working correctly before NUT changed to now use the nut-driver-enumerator.service, and it may be possible that I have an old udev rule that is conflicting with the new method.
Thanks.
Edit: Correction to the first failure and formatting.

I was able to solve this.
I did two things and was able to get past the problem.
1st was to reboot the UPS.
2nd was to uninstall mixxx due to the following error:
Dec 09 09:18:39 camus2.1 (udev-worker)[133748]: hiddev0: /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/69-mixxx-usb-uaccess.rules:57 GROUP 4294967295

I don't use this app and I uninstalled it just in case.
I'm thinking the UPS reboot fixed it.
