Volume problems

I have a problem with volume settings changing by themselves.

This only seems to happen with the mic input levels. If I type in:

amixer get Mic

Simple mixer control 'Mic',0
  Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
  Capture channels: Mono
  Limits: Capture 0 - 31
  Mono: Capture 24 [77%] [1.50dB] [on]

I find that my volume settings sometimes change by themselves to something like this:

05:12:49 ~$ amixer get Mic
Simple mixer control 'Mic',0
  Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
  Capture channels: Mono
  Limits: Capture 0 - 31
  Mono: Capture 5 [16%] [-27.00dB] [on]
05:12:52 ~$ 

So far this has only happened inside skype which brings me to believe it has something to do with skype?
