[SOLVED] Help setting up Brother HL-L2400DW printer

Brother HL-L2400DW
-afaict there's no aur for this printer's driver

I've got cups "working" in that system-config-printers will detect my printer but it gives no driver for it.

So I tried manually extracting the driver from the rpm package to manually select the .ppd during setup.

But that gives me the error "Idle - 'File /usr/lib/cups/filter/brother_ldpwrapper_HLL2400DW' not available: No such file or directory'

So I tried manually copying and renaming the lpdwrapper, but to no avail.

I've also tried using cups-pdf, ipp-everywhere (though its an air print printer ro ofc it wont work)

Worth noting: It's connected via usb, and this computer or printer aren't connected to a router, so it's not net print or wifi print.

I'm not sure of the next troubleshooting step would be.

Re: [SOLVED] Help setting up Brother HL-L2400DW printer

The oracle of Moutain View suggests that it's airprint capable, so IPP Everywhere should™ work w/o any driver requirement but you'll need cups-pdf for that to work.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/CUPS#Installation

Edit:

though its an air print printer ro ofc it wont work

Can you please explain that logic?

I did try with cups-pdf but unless I'm not choosing the right setup (i chose 'cups-pdf with settings') I'm not sure.

I tried IPP-everywhere once again and I actually got something to happen, it started printing infinite blank pages lol..

My logic was just its one or the other, I'm just trying to figure it out because printers are an area I dont know much about.

You probably selected the wrong driver, cups-pdf is a requirement, it's not the printer you're supposed to use.
Did you try the generic IPP everywhere driver?

You might however run into a brother specific issue,  https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/CUPS/P … P-over-USB
https://support.brother.com/g/b/faqend. … 100729_000

You could try to leverage https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/ … fc-l2750dw - change the file url, md5sum, package name and description and especially "_model=HLL2400DW" and if it works, share your AUR for other brother vic… users.

I had this same issue, followed these steps and it worked! Github is here: https://github.com/sklarsa/brother-mfc-l2400dw

I'm going to work on submitting this to AUR. This is my first package so it may take me a bit to figure out the workflow

You are god. For some reason I couldn't add the printer from the printer settings in plasma, but going to the cups admin page it works perfectly!
