Wine applications not launching on old PC

Hi. I'm currently trying to set up wine on an old laptop with these specs:

Intel Core2 Duo T7700@2.4GHz
4GB RAM
Nvidia Quadro FX570M 256MB

Afaik, there isn't any hardware requirements I'm missing but I may be mistaken.
I'm currently using wine with all the optional dependencies (wine-mono, wine-gecko, etc) but previously installed and tried to use wine-staging but didn't work also.
In terms of drivers, I originally used the xf86-video-nouveau drivers, but I moved to the nvidia-340xx-dkms drivers instead since I needed as much performance I could get.

I've tried resetting things by deleting all wineprefixes, with the win32 WINEARCH that seems to progress the most.

What do you expect from "wineboot" and does "winecfg" start?

From wineboot and typically when I launch other applications with wine, there is a small GUI that pops up stating that the wineprefix is currently being updated. It's currently absent when I try to run these commands.
winecfg also does not work, nor any kind of window launches.

Just in case that it matters, I am using DWM for the laptop though I can test the commands also on XFCE just quickly tested it there on XFCE; same outputs.

Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General and the output of "glxinfo -B" (just to make that one isn't broken)
This is wine, not proton? (Cause you won't get vulkan)

This is nvidia-settings cruft, the drivers don't exist since decades - but otherwise there's nothing suspicious (ignoring the obvious of the legacy nvidia driver) there and the GL installation seems ok as well.

The trigger is probably

00c0:err:winediag:is_broken_driver Broken NVIDIA RandR detected, falling back to RandR 1.0. Please consider using the Nouveau driver instead.

resulting in the nodrv path.
https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=139887#p139887 suggest that pinning the metamode can help with that.

Add this to your Device or Screen Section in your xorg config

Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: 1920x1200 +0+0"

Check the log, if the driver doesn't like it, you might have to use the randr name (from "xrandr -q" eDP0 or HDMI-0 or something like that)

Okay so here are the respective outputs.

First I read the post and some of the linked bugs with it and I tried this:

1 - Edit `/etc/X11/xorg.conf`with one of these lines:

3 - Copied the log:

The randr restriction was applied but wine doesn't care.
The other xorg configs don't matter.

So just for clarification, I originally installed Arch on an SSD for a latop with these specs:

HP Compaq nx7400
Core2 Duo T2400
4GB RAM
Intel GMA 965 shared ram (~300MB)

I tried to use wine on it and had the same errors, minus the `nvidia RandR` problems.
Once I got this better (but still shit) laptop of the same line up (8510w), this time with the Quadro FX 570M,
I moved the drive to the this one, to which I'm still having my problems with, both with the xf86-video-nouveau, nvidia-340xx-dkms and standard nvidia-340xx legacy drivers.

And yeah, this has been a wild goose chase and I apologize for wasting your time.

For a sanity check and probably the last thing I'm gonna do (or if I want to disturb the folks in the WINE forum),
I'll reinstall Arch, eliminating any residuals from the previous laptop and just use nouveau for testing WINE.

If no joy, I'll pick up this project another time as this is not a critical thing for me.
I just wanted something that does both retro + 00s games + internet + general programming.

The server runs, the critical part is likely

What configuration do you use on the other systems? SDDM + DWM as well?
Try to use startx/xinit to start an openbox session instead (make sure the xinitrc is complete, last link below on what to add at least)
