Hi there,
I am really at a loss here and have no idea where to look. Recently I did a system upgrade, of particular interest might be the uninstall of the AUR Package "gdm-plymouth", which was installed but no longer exists on the AUR. I found that gdm itself is supposed to support plymouth so I just installed that instead. Ever since that system upgrade. My computer has been booting to a black screen. I do see the splash screen from plymouth but after that it just goes to a black screen.
If I were to send my computer to sleep and wake it up again. The login screen appears. Upon login, sometimes it also goes to a black screen, which also resolves itself upon sleep > wake.
My gdm logs from systemctl are as follows:
Dec 19 08:13:52 volpino systemd[1]: Starting GNOME Display Manager...
Dec 19 08:13:52 volpino systemd[1]: Started GNOME Display Manager.
Dec 19 08:14:17 volpino gdm-password][5797]: gkr-pam: unable to locate daemon control file
Dec 19 08:14:17 volpino gdm-password][5797]: gkr-pam: stashed password to try later in open session
Dec 19 08:14:17 volpino gdm-password][5797]: pam_unix(gdm-password:session): session opened for use>
Dec 19 08:14:18 volpino gdm-password][5797]: gkr-pam: unlocked login keyring
Dec 19 08:14:24 volpino gdm[4711]: Gdm: Child process -4791 was already dead. From what I can tell, the error message `unable to locate daemon control file` is normal, but I couldn't find anything about the last line about a child process, however, I don't think it is related.
I have also checked journalctl and did not find anything strange, so I actually have no idea where else I could look to find what the error is...
I am using GNOME Shell 45.2 with Xorg. Thanks in advance for any tips or fixes!
