Black screen with vaapi hw accelerated video

Hi All,

I have black screens when playing VAAPI hardware accelerated h264 videos. I tried vlc and firefox; both indicate hw acceleration. Sound is ok. Vainfo output looks fine. The hardware is an amd hd6450, with the open source (radeon) driver. Same experience either x11 or wayland.

Any suggestions to sort this would be appreciated.

Same exact problem on Debian Sid with HD 6530D AMD gpu. Showed up last week. I'm thinking bug came from upstream and no settings will fix it. Same mesa driver version 23.3.1 by the way.  I've been searching for a week with no luck so far.

I have this issue as well with my laptop with a AMD 6250 GPU.  Downgrading to mesa 1:23.2.1-2 and libva-mesa-driver 1:23.2.1-2 fixes the problem so the bug seems to be with version 1:23.3.  Mesa-git version 24 devel from AUR also fixes the issue.  So the problem is isolated to mesa 23.3.  The latest package 1:23.3.2-1 still has the problem.

Coolbooks2's suggestion is correct. Downgrading 'mesa' and 'libva-mesa-driver' does fix the black screen issue. Also, the downgrade did not brake anything (at least I did not notice anything broken). I guess the easiest way is to stick to the downgraded packages until the 24 version makes it's way through. (I found building 'Mesa-git' more complicated than usual, and eventually did not proceed.)
