I have a Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro and pulseaudio doesn't recognize any device output for audio. I have alsa too, but I haven't figured out how to solve this. I'm new to arch, so I'm not sure how to properly use these audio software.
Apart from that issue, when I plug in earphones they aren't recognized either.
Here is the output when I run "pactl list sinks":
Sink #0
State: SUSPENDED
Name: auto_null
Description: Dummy Output
Driver: module-null-sink.c
Sample Specification: s16le 2ch 48000Hz
Channel Map: front-left,front-right
Owner Module: 14
Mute: no
Volume: front-left: 65536 / 100% / 0.00 dB, front-right: 65536 / 100% / 0.00 dB
balance 0.00
Base Volume: 65536 / 100% / 0.00 dB
Monitor Source: auto_null.monitor
Latency: 0 usec, configured 0 usec
Flags: DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY SET_FORMATS
Properties:
device.description = "Dummy Output"
device.class = "abstract"
device.icon_name = "audio-card"
Formats:
pcm
Meanwhile, when I run "pacmd list", this is the output:
...
0 card(s) available.
0 sink input(s) available.
0 source output(s) available.
0 cache entrie(s) available.
The output is the same even when I plug in the earphones.
Thanks for helping

Currently I have an issue with pulseaudio and pipewire. I seems like pipewire is active, so I removed pulseaudio by doing
sudo pacman -S pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber pipewire-alsa pipewire-jack
So I suppose that I'm not using pulseaudio anymore. However, the problem is still there, as there are no cards recognized. Here is the output of that command:
aplay -lL null Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture) pipewire PipeWire Sound Server default Default ALSA Output (currently PipeWire Media Server) aplay: device_list:277: no soundcards found... [vicho@GB3Pro ~]$
And the second command I'm not so sure what it is for...?

It's for posting your system journal so we can see what HW is actually there, what modules are loaded and whether there're any errors

ok, thanks for the explanation! Here's the output:
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

That seemed to work! Now my cards are recognized, but I still can hear anything. I'm not sure if anything is muted, maybe. Here is some information that may be useful:

Of these pulse options the sink you want to play on is "alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp__sink" so try
pactl set-default-sink alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp__sink
and make sure whatever you're testing is actually playing there.

nope

Does it help if you plug in headphones?
Please post an updated system journal.

Ah wait I didn't see the weird 31 device yet, does
speaker-test -Dhw:0,31 -c2
work?

I tried running:
speaker-test -Dhw:0,31 -c2
but it didn't produce any audio.
I don't have headphones to plug in, but bluetooth headphones did work.
Here's an update for the system journal:

BT HPs are a different device and not relevant. You don't even have the in-ears that get thrown at you with every phone?
There's another thread that may indicate a TGL related sof-firmware regression (while there it crashes)
What if you downgrade sof-firmware, https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/ … kg.tar.zst ?
Otherwise, what if you actually pass "snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0" or "snd_intel_dspcfg.dsp_driver=1" to the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters (try either, not both at the same time)
Offline
I tried everything below: both kernel options with and without the sof-firmware regression, but neither worked.
I also found a working pair of headphones that do work when I plug them in, so the problem is with the built-in speakers.

Can you toggle that in "alsamixer -c0"
You could try to keep "mpv -ao alsa thunderstruck.mp3" playing while changing the mixer settings.

Did you plug and unplug the HPs w/ auto-mute enabled?
Is there a parallel windows?
Can you try to boot some live distro to see whether you get speaker sound there (or also only HPs)?
Offline
Yes, I plugged and unplugged, but it doesn't work.
What do you mean with "parallel windows"? I do have a dual boot with Windows, but I made sure to run
powercfg /H off
on Windows before the installation. Btw, in Windows the audio works fine.
And could you explain me a bit what and how to install a live distro? Any links? Thank you!
Offline
Btw, in Windows the audio works fine.
That answers one of the more important questions.
No make sure fast-start is still disabled, windows frequently re-enables it with updates.
And you generally don't install live-distros. That's the point - you boot them from a USB key
You could try the latest ubuntu or knoppix, grml, … there're countless.
Offline
I checked, and yes, it's still disabled. I first disabled just fast-start, and later hibernation, but neither worked. It is still necessary to install the live distro? or the info about dual boot was enough?

You don't install a live distro, you start them and test them out without installing anything to check whether it's an Arch specific or a general linux problem.
Offline
I started Ubuntu in a USB and I didn't get any sound either, so I guess it is a Windows related issue. Hibernation and Fast-Start are off.
