Inactive workspaces don't seem to be rendered

When I use OBS to record any window on awesome, the recording is black unless I'm on the same workspace as the window I'm recording. So it seems that awesome is not rendering the inactive workspaces.
I've also notices the same problem on other programs when screensharing. Is there a way to fix this?
Here's the obs output:

Re: Inactive workspaces don't seem to be rendered

workspaces are a logical concept, not a physical one.
All windows on "other" workspaces are effectively "minimized"

What't the actual problem you're trying to solve this way (recording off-screen clients)?

Re: Inactive workspaces don't seem to be rendered

Yeah, I've just checked and the issue also happens with minimized windows in the same workspace. So I guess the problem is just that minimized windows are not rendered.
Is there a way to get them to render?

Re: Inactive workspaces don't seem to be rendered

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Maybe i'm missing something.
What i want is being able to switch workspace without the recording going black.

By *why* do you want to do that?
Academic reasons?
Why don't you just record visible windows?

You might be lucky when using a compositing WM (kwin, mutter, compiz, …) that doesn't unmap windows but just stops rendering them (to keep them updated) but w/ awesome I see little chance, not even when paired with a  compositor.

Re: Inactive workspaces don't seem to be rendered

I see.
I needed it for a project but I guess I can find another way.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Inactive workspaces don't seem to be rendered

Try Xephyr (nested X11 server, you can minimize that but the windows inside the server won't be minimized so you can record inside that - probably won't work if "project" is steam-cheating or whatever, since there's no [edit: sufficient] HW acceleration)
