[SOLVED] Invalid ELF header magic: != \x7fELF

On my arch system I get the above message.

I've google it but only came up with info from 2012 and older that didn't apply to me.
Is this something to worry about?

@seth yeah that is why I am here.  I don't think that helped and no one there knows about Arch Linux

Here is the complete dmesg:

Re: [SOLVED] Invalid ELF header magic: != \x7fELF

It helps a lot, suggesting that this is entirely about mailcow.
How did you install that? There's no pacakge in the repos or the AUR?

Re: [SOLVED] Invalid ELF header magic: != \x7fELF

I followed mailcow instructions and modified it for my arch linux.
https://docs.mailcow.email/i_u_m/i_u_m_install/

I installed docker compose with help from arch linux wiki
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Docker

Re: [SOLVED] Invalid ELF header magic: != \x7fELF

So it's a docker image with a bogus wannabe-ELF binary inside… the container most likely relies on some specific system version of glibc and simply won't work w/ newer ones.
Also see https://community.mailcow.email/d/2287- … f-header/4

Always remember: the container bullshit is a lie.

Re: [SOLVED] Invalid ELF header magic: != \x7fELF

@Seth Yeah that is the problem I have with most things I do.
I try to use the product outside the scope of standards or guidelines or whatever you want to call it and no one wants to help so I am left on my own to figure it out.
I know there are people out there like yourself that is much smarter than I and I will get smarter as I go but every once in a while I could use some help.
I do as much research but it seems like I never do enough. I thank you for reading the mailcow posts . I know that is not your responsibility.
Well if this is a docker / mailcow issue then I will mark this solved as there is nothing else to do for now.
The system is working fine so I assume that error doesn't harm anything. I was just wondering if it might me a Arch linux thing or mailcow issue.
Thanks
Dan

Re: [SOLVED] Invalid ELF header magic: != \x7fELF

You could try to figure what the bogus binary is (sudo journalctl might help) but there's really nothing you can do about docker being an inherently broken concept, resp. you could nudge the mailcow crew to fix their container (include all relevant libraries) or provide a container for newer glibc versions.

What of course is in start contrast with the docker promise that it makes binary-only releases easier and universally usable.
Because that is, was and will forever be a brazen lie.

Yeah I will definitely look at the files.
But they have already told me they won't support my system because "Arch Linux" is not a stable system due to it being a rolling release. I understand that .
And I know no one here would recommend me using Arch for a mail server. They are correct it adds much risk with keeping it working. I have not had an issue as of yet. I assume that has to do with running mailcow in a docker container and outside packages should not affect it. Unless the docker package itself could be an issue.

Thanks everyone for their help and guidance.
I will mark this solved.

Re: [SOLVED] Invalid ELF header magic: != \x7fELF

Ftr. this is not a "rolling release" problem, they apparently don't support newer versions of ubuntu either.
Once they do, you can probably also run this on arch.

Re: [SOLVED] Invalid ELF header magic: != \x7fELF

If the container relies on specific versions of system libraries, then the "run anywhere" mantra is indeed a fricking lie.
