I updated my system yesterday and selected the default to switch to dbus-broker. After the upgrade, it failed to boot.
Errors on boot:

Jan 12 10:10:21 systemd[1]: dbus-broker.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
Jan 12 10:10:21 systemd[1]: Failed to start D-Bus System Message Bus.
I had to boot a rescue USB, chroot, install dbus-daemon-units and then remove dbus-broker-units and dbus-broker to allow it to boot again.

What, exactly, is /usr/share/dbus-1/system.d/org.rnd2.cpupower_gui.helper.conf? That file isn't in the repos.

I just checked and it is a zero byte file installed Jan 2021. It looks like it came from this package:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/cpupower-gui
Which is no longer installed.

zero bytes, and I'm assuming unowned (pacman -Qo <file>)? If so, delete it.
Edit: I would also point you to https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/lostfiles/ to see if you have other old files lying around for some reason.

I deleted it, I guess it should be safe to switch to dbus-broker now.
Thanks for the lostfiles tip, I found a few more stray ones around the place.
