Has anyone else had problems with k3b recognizing cd-rs?.I figure it's not a drive problem since dvd-rs are recognized, but I've tried two cd brands and they both read as no disk via diskinfo. It was burning two weeks ago, so I figure it's got to be something recent... :?
edit - hw probs...

You could try adding yourself to burning group, if you haven't. Seems to have fixed alot of problems I recently had. There was no group so I added it then put myself in it, Just a thought

I tried that too, but I wasn't sure what to use for the GID. In any event, after I tried running k3b/diskinfo as root, and saw the same problem, I figured it wasn't a permissions dealio. If this is a bug with cdrkit, would a file a report via arch, or should I go upstream to the cdrkit mailing list myself?

Hi!
I also have problems writing ANY kind of media. I always get errors that the media wouldn't be supported. But the CDs and DVDs are the same like I always use and they used to work. The burner also works (I checked it using some LiveCDs) so now I don't know what to do....
So does anyone know what to do or does anyone know something about a bug or whatever?
Thanks!

The current k3b version doesn't seem to support cdrkit fully, the 1.0 release candidate 5 release notes states:
The most important improvements in rc5 is the full cdrkit support (there was no way around it)
Might have to wait for 1.0 final release or perhaps try and build a package yourself.
I'm still using cdrtools and it's working fine here, doubt I'll upgrade for a while since of all the topics about problems with cdrkit.

I have problems too using cdrkit. Mostly corrupted data in audio cd's but sometimes even if I try to burn images of data cd's/dvd's. How can I switch back to cdrtools;
$sudo pacman -Ss cdrtools
current/cdrkit 1.1.2-1
GPL replacement of cdrtools for recording CDs
extra/dvdrtools 0.2.1-1
dvdrtools is a fork of cdrtools, with the primary goal of supporting
writable DVD drives
community/hacburn 0.3.5-3
HacBurn is a script written in perl to aid in writing CDs. It is a graphical
interface (using gtk+) to cdrtools, mpg321 and ogg123.

Use pacman to remove cdrkit, then download the cdrtools package and install it manually with pacman -A switch.
For i686: ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/ibiblio/distribu … pkg.tar.gz
For x86_64: ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/suns … pkg.tar.gz
If you want pacman to stop bothering you with messages about replacing cdrtools with cdrkit add an entry in /etc/pacman.conf to ignore the package (under [options]), ie:
[options]
IgnorePkg = cdrtools

Thank you. I replaced the package. Maybe I will give another chance to cdrkit sometime in the future.
