VirtualBox kernel module not loaded even after trying so hard to do so

It won't start a VM and it says for me to load the kernel module. I looked up on the wiki and tried every solution but it didn't work.

The Arch Wiki on VirtualBox said to sign modules but when I did, it returned this:

for module in `ls /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/misc/{vboxdrv.ko,vboxnetadp.ko,vboxnetflt.ko}` ; do ./scripts/sign-file sha1 certs/signing_key.pem certs/signing_key.x509 $module ; done
ls: cannot access '/lib/modules/6.7.0-arch3-1/kernel/misc/vboxdrv.ko': No such file or directory
ls: cannot access '/lib/modules/6.7.0-arch3-1/kernel/misc/vboxnetadp.ko': No such file or directory
ls: cannot access '/lib/modules/6.7.0-arch3-1/kernel/misc/vboxnetflt.ko': No such file or directory

From what I can see, there isn't any modules to begin with. I reinstalled the packages and rebooted, still no luck.

Anything is much appreciated.

What, exactly, did you install?

Re: VirtualBox kernel module not loaded even after trying so hard to do so

???

As on the title, I installed Oracle's (previously Sun Microsystem's) VirtualBox. It's a program that virtualizes a fully fledged system in your computer. The propeitery alternative for this is VMWare.

And if you could read the rest of the post with much less dumbfoundness although your reply is still much appreciated.

Re: VirtualBox kernel module not loaded even after trying so hard to do so

What *packages*. How did you install or build the modules? Have you read the VirtualBox wiki page? You said you did, but the installation part gives you options, so we need to know just what you did.

We? But there is only you and I! Anyway,

It prompted me two packages as on this: S8foLZC.jpg

Since I was planning on installing something that WAS linux but not quite actually Linux, I chose the second one but it gave me that problem so I went with the first one and yet it still gave the the same problem.

Re: VirtualBox kernel module not loaded even after trying so hard to do so

Now it's a we.

The linux here refers to the installed Arch kernel, not to whatever you're going to do in the virtual box.

The question still remains, but what does the system say?

pacman -Qs virtualbox

pacman -Qs virtualbox

This is what it says:

local/linux 6.7.arch3-1
    The Linux kernel and modules
local/linux-lts 6.6.11-2
The LTS Linux kernel and modules
local/virtualbox 7.0.12-1
Powerful x86 virtualization for enterprise as well as home use
local/virtualbox-host-modules-arch 7.0.12-18
Virtualbox host kernel modules for Arch Kernel

Perhaps, could my kernel be too new for VirtualBox? (6.7.0-arch3-1)

Also, just to clear something by "installing" on my last reply, I meant as in installing the wanted OS in the VM in VirtualBox.

Re: VirtualBox kernel module not loaded even after trying so hard to do so

OK, so you have the pre-built modules for the 'linux' package and all of the versions are good. Did you boot that kernel? Check uname -a.

The guest systems make no difference, the wiki is referencing the host kernel packages.

I'm still quite new to Arch (been somewhere over a month), so whatever this means:

 Linux jar 6.7.0-arch3-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat, 13 Jan 2024 14:37:14 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Re: VirtualBox kernel module not loaded even after trying so hard to do so

Correct location of the kernel modules for Virtualbox is:

/usr/lib/modules/6.7.0-arch3-1/extramodules/vboxdrv.ko.xz
/usr/lib/modules/6.7.0-arch3-1/extramodules/vboxnetadp.ko.xz
/usr/lib/modules/6.7.0-arch3-1/extramodules/vboxnetflt.ko.xz

Re: VirtualBox kernel module not loaded even after trying so hard to do so

That's the correct version. Is there any problem loading the modules, then? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Virtua … el_modules

Sure, but that's not needed. The whole signing thing is unnecessary in the vast majority of cases, including this one.
