XFCE panel - Maximized windows go behind when re-connecting display

I am using xfce4 on a displayport monitor. I have the "reserve space on screen edges" button checked, but when I turn off and on my monitor, the windows go behind the panel. I need to un-maximize and re-maximize the window to get the bottom part of the window to show up. How do I fix this?
