Mirrors down?

I wanted to sort mirrors with reflector --verbose but it only returned 3 asian domains...

What's happening to arch mirrors today? https://archlinux.org/mirrors/status/#errorlog

Re: Mirrors down?

I don't see anything notable on the mirror status page.

What was the actual reflector command used?

Just "reflector --verbose", it returns:

Server = rsync://rsync.archlinux.nautile.nc/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
Server = https://mirror.cyberbits.asia/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
Server = rsync://rsync.cyberbits.asia/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch

I see a bunch of Name or service not known / Connection timed out errors on the status page...

Mmm... As for now, only 3 mirrors have 100% completion on Successfully Syncing Mirrors list.

Re: Mirrors down?

Sorry I misunderstood.  I read the OP as only three among Asian domains were working, not that only three were working total, and they happened to be Asian domains.  Indeed very few mirrors are "complete" at the moment.  I gather this would most likely be an error on the top tier mirror(s) perhaps providing a database listing a package without the corresponding package file making it to the server.

(edit: though all the mirrors having *different* sub-100% completion statuses wouldn't seem to fit my hypothesis.)

Actually the meaning of "Completion %" is somewhat misleading.
It's not about a mirror being fully synced and having all packages available/up-to-date.

Completion %: The number of mirror checks that have successfully connected and disconnected from the given URL. If this is below 100%, the mirror may be unreliable.

So it's simply an indication of availability rather than being related to the content.

I guess there was some issue with one of the boxes that do perform these connections checks.
Such that it was falsely logging errors although the mirrors were ok.

Re: Mirrors down?

First mirror works fine.
There's either a general issue w/ your network or Modi cut the landlines wink

Can you

wget -O /dev/null 'https://archlinux.thaller.ws/extra/os/x86_64/extra.db'

at a usable speed?

Re: Mirrors down?

I waited for a few hours and pacman -Syu is working fine now.

Regarding wget -O /dev/null 'https://archlinux.thaller.ws/extra/os/x86_64/extra.db'.  Right now this is working  good too. I will check it when I get same problem again.

The thing is, from last 1 year, I have seen Arch servers to be very slow. Pacman used to download packages at full speed but now it has reduced to 1/10th of it. When I run reflector script from wiki, it is slower too.

Re: Mirrors down?

17.7KB/s is ludicrous, Modi jokes aside, could be lousy peering by your ISP.
What if you don't filter for country?

What do you exactly mean by *lousy peering*?

I removed the --country line and ran the script. Absolutely no difference at all

Re: Mirrors down?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peering - tl;dr, if your ISP is unwilling to pay freeway tolls and sends you on an offroad detour.

Can you tes the LAN speed, eg. using iperf or a local http/ftp server?
