[SOLVED] Second monitor stopped working after an update

The monitor works on windows 11 which is the second system on the same machine so I'm pretty sure its not an issue with hardware/cable.
It stopped working after a system update a few months ago.

It's a laptop with integrated gpu from amd processor and rtx 3070.

xrandr -q says that the second monitor is connected.

but when I try using:

xrandr --auto --output HDMI-1-0 --mode 1920x1080 --right-of eDP-1

I get an error:

Configure crtc 4 failed.

Its also detected in the nvidia-settings.

I'm using KDE Plasma with X11 (tried changing it to wayland and it didnt work too)

I think it may be an double gpu issue cause the main screen which works on integrated gpu works but the external monitor that runs on dedicated doesn't.
Or maybe it's an issue with xrandr config? Do I need one in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d ?
I don't remember setting one up and the dual monitor setup worked before with just using xrandr command.

Enable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting - use the "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" kernel parameter (modprobe.conf won't do!), stay away from fbdev=1 until nvidia has fixed that. It'll also rid you of the simpledrm device, but more importantly hopefully provide access to the EDID.
Otherwise you've have to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … s_and_EDID - but that's a last resort.

I'll just leave some instructions if someone will have the same problem, uses GRUB and finds this thread.

1. Go to

/etc/default/grub

2. Find the line that starts with

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX

3. Append

nvidia_drm.modeset=1

to the end of the parameters. Separate it from other parameters if they exist with a space.
4. Regenerate the GRUB config file using

sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

5. Reboot the system and it should work.
