i'm trying to install arch on ancient computer (p3 )
the prob is that the installation stuck in the part of the partitions
i choosed the first option "Auto-Prepare" (i dont need the data on the hd)
then i see message "formating..."(i dont remmber exactly the message)
and that it, i wait almost 1 hour and it's still "formating"
maybe my hd is damage?

If that is not too frustrating, you may try manual format with cfdisk - it's not that bad. Also you may just remove all partitions with cfdisk (you can do it in advance in another virtual terminal etc alt+ F2), write the changes and then use auto prepare. This hang, however, is quite not normal.
It's good also to mention which install cd image do you use (like version..).
If everything else fails, read the manual.

I have a P3 (see below), and it formatted in about a minute, so it couldn't be the computer. Like Mandor said, try using fdisk (or cfdisk, if you prefer). Make sure that you format the partitions after you create them. Otherwise, Bad Things will happen.
