[SOLVED] GPU fans aren't spinning

Hi,

The three fans on my GPU are spinning fine when I'm in the BIOS of my machine (so that tells me it at least works), but whenever I boot into Arch, the fans just stop. I've even taken my case off to watch this just to confirm it. AMDGPU_TOP and corectrl both report that the unit is on, but the the blades aren't turning. I can't seem to control them either, the just stay at 0 RPM...

What could I be doing wrong?

Re: [SOLVED] GPU fans aren't spinning

Why do you think something is wrong? Temp wise your well within safe limits. Do they stay off when doing actual work like running a GPU benchmark? That they turn off when there's no reason or need for them to be running is generally normal and intended.

Re: [SOLVED] GPU fans aren't spinning

Because the last one's weren't like this and would spin all the time, even during idle mode, which was a RX570 (old gpu) - https://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-11266-3 … B079VSD38Y

From what I'm reading, the cards these day may be designed like this, but just to be sure, how can I perform a benchmark?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Benchmarking#Graphics -- has some options, otherwise run some game or so.

Re: [SOLVED] GPU fans aren't spinning

Alright, I ran a few tests and even booted a pretty intense game up (FF14). You are correct, it activated as soon as it 'needed' to do so.  I guess that's just how they're designed these days.
