Gnome camera app (snapshot) cannot load from overview

I tried opening the camera app (snapshot) for the first time, and it just shows a window with a spinner. No buttons, options, menus, or anything (see screenshot below)

When running in my terminal (Alacritty), I get a popup saying Alacritty needs permission access my camera.

It seems that when launching from the overview, something is failling between the app launching and asking for permission to the camera.
