[~SOLVED] The system does not shutdown anymore

Hello everyone,

I have an Arch stable running on my Asus laptop UX433F since 4-5 years without major issue.
Since around 1 week or 10 days, my laptop does not shutdown properly anymore. It can sometime shutdown properly, but from what I have experienced it's only if has been running for a short period of time.
I have to maintain the power button to shut it down.

I've found several topics about people having problem with sleep/hibernate, but couldn't find a topic similar to mine (feel free to redirect me if I missed it).

Here are some info from fastfetch :

I don't have a crazy amount of AUR packages :

 temet@zenarch ~ $ pacman -Qqm
anydesk-bin
arch-update
breeze-blue-cursor-theme
gftp
glew1.6
libvitamtp
onlyoffice-bin
qcma
qownnotes
rpi-imager-bin
spotify
superhexagon
ttf-optimusprinceps
yay

I'm not sure if/where I can get log of a system that does not shut down. Feel free to ask me any log that could help troubleshooting.
I have these pictures of the screen taken from my phone : kernel panic (happened once) or generaly this happens

I thought maybe removing nvidia drivers as I don't use the NVidia card but it would be a random try.

I've waited few days in case an update would magically solve the issue, but it did not.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Temet

EDIT : I think I screwed up... I should have put this in "Laptop Issues" section sad.

It's either nvidia 550xx or the numa bug or a combo of both.
Possible mitigations would be nvidia-open (which has other caveats) or downgrading to 545xx or 535xx - and *perhaps* also disabling or limiting numa (bug looks scary but might be completely irrelevant here)

Re: [~SOLVED] The system does not shutdown anymore

Hi Seth,

Thanks for the hint.
I uninstalled all nvidia related stuff. I don't use the NVidia card.
Too bad I can't disable it in my BIOS, I don't know if it's draining battery or not.
I'll monitor it and try to add it again in a few weeks if the issue is gone.

Re: [~SOLVED] The system does not shutdown anymore

Hi,

The culprit was indeed NVidia.
Since I uninstalled all NVidia stuff it's back to normal...
