[SOLVED] Games using Proton fail to capture mouse on Plasma 6 Wayland

Since upgrading to Plasma 6, games running under Proton fail to capture the mouse cursor properly when used for looking around in 3D games. Instead of being able to look around like normal, the view only wiggles slightly, as if the cursor is locked in position.

Running Plasma 6.0.1 Wayland session on Arch 6.7.8-arch1-1. Found some related reports on the KDE bug tracker, all seem to be with Arch.

Edit: Appears solved by Plasma 6.0.3.

Tested Wolfenstein II worked fine here (though maybe not the best test since that's native Vulkan and doesn't need DXVK/VKD3D, wine sometimes reacts allergic to very high DPI mice, potentially that?

Re: [SOLVED] Games using Proton fail to capture mouse on Plasma 6 Wayland

I already hate wayland. They spent 15 years making it, 15 years Karl and here is the long awaited release of KDE 6.
Wine doesn't work. Applications can't catch button presses if they are not active. Keypassxc forgot how to enter passwords automatically.
FFS wayland developers on all claims answer that you do not understand our superior design. Screw them and their design. 15 years ffs.

I tested Wolfenstein myself and that worked fine, so I tested the games that weren't working last night and earlier today (Risk of Rain 2, Lethal Company).... and now they're working just fine. Not sure what changed, I didn't update anything. I'll mark as solved for now.

Yeap, confirmed here.

The finals and one-armed robber is giving me headaches. To fix it temporarily I need to log out and log in again. Then, after a while, it starts happening again.

Removed solved, as it seems to still be coming and going. My mouse is a Logitech MX Ergo trackball being used over Bluetooth, if that helps. Not especially high DPI as far as I know. I'd be happy to do any troubleshooting/logging needed, I'm just not sure where to start. Fully up to date as of today, running new kernel 6.7.9-arch1-1.

Same here.

Both my MX Master 3S with receiver and my touchboard are not working. Using 6.8.1 Kernel.

For me this only occurs in Fullscreen mode. In Windowed games everything goes just fine.

Edi1t: In windowed mod there's sitll the problem. Just making changes here and there may randomly make it work. Weired.

Edit2: Try install `pipewire-alsa` and `realtime-privileges` (not sure which one solves it). At least works for me.

That seemed to fix it for me as well. How in the world did you come to that conclusion?

I'll do more testing tomorrow though.

Re: [SOLVED] Games using Proton fail to capture mouse on Plasma 6 Wayland

The "realtime-privileges" did nothing for me.  However, looking at the KDE bug trackers, it looks like the input bug may have to do with KWin and Wayland.  When I logged in on a X11 session, at least with one of the offending games (Metro: Last Light - Complete Edition) I had mouse movement again.  I'm about to try Dying Light now...

Yes it is well established that this issue is a Wayland only issue. Of course X11 will work fine.

Re: [SOLVED] Games using Proton fail to capture mouse on Plasma 6 Wayland

I was having issues as well after the latest update in Garuda Dragonized Edition Linux (Arch-based distro); Changing to Proton 7.0-6 from the default 8.0-5 in Steam under the Compatibility section of the settings  (for the only game I play basically) solved this mouse input issue (cursor going full left/up immediately and no input from mouse). However, I'm also having an issue with the mouse leaving the game window and going onto my other monitor at times. I'm going to try using Gamescope to solve this (I've installed it but have not tested it yet).

A few other annoying issues I've noticed since this upgrade is text missing from menus and such - in my printer dialogue box for example, or the tabs in my browser, and my keyboard backlight not functioning anymore (I'm on a desktop, not laptop, and use a Devstator II keyboard that uses the printscreen key for backlight toggle). Things that have made it work in the past don't work now (such as xset led and xmodmap -e "add mod3 = Scroll_Lock"). I got it working using brightnessctl command, but haven't made it permanent yet. I haven't even tried figuring out the missing text issue....
