Same resolution in X and "pure" console

I've been using Linux for a while and I've always been annoyed by the CRT monitor flickering when switching from X to a console.

Has anyone managed (is it possible) to have X and the console* have the same resolution and color depth and same h/v frequencies so that I can get instant switch between console and X?

*using FB or something else

Thanks.

Re: Same resolution in X and "pure" console

specify at boot: video=vesafb:1280x1024-24@60 or whatever resolution bitdepth and refresh you need, and it should work as you expect (except that vesafb doesn't seem to work for resolutions beyond 1280x1024, at least for me).
