[SOLVED] Plasma 6: Desktop icons do not stay in the desired position

I noticed that after a reboot, the icons on the desktop (e.g. files, folders, programs, etc.) lose their position and are all arranged next to each other on the first row. Is there any way to prevent this?

I actually had this on Plasma 5 as well. Never quite figured out what was triggering it. On my laptop, it was working fine with exactly the same version of everything. On my desktop, icons would get rearranged every time I would reboot.
If anyone has any idea how to deal with this.

Re: [SOLVED] Plasma 6: Desktop icons do not stay in the desired position

Do you remember if the behavior occurred when you rebooted your system using the reboot command?

I'm pretty sure that's the reason. Restarting via reboot kills the Plasma processes and therefore does not allow Plasma to exit correctly and save the corresponding session settings.

Referring to https://askubuntu.com/questions/1871/ho … mmand-line Plasma should be closed via the terminal with the following commands:

qdbus org.kde.Shutdown /Shutdown logout
qdbus org.kde.Shutdown /Shutdown logoutAndReboot
qdbus org.kde.Shutdown /Shutdown logoutAndShutdown

I simply created an alias for the reboot and poweroff command and can now simply restart or shut down via CLI and the session is ended correctly.

Re: [SOLVED] Plasma 6: Desktop icons do not stay in the desired position

No, in my case it was a clean reboot.
The only real difference I could think of between my laptop and desktop was the GPU. And I do suspect that it was a matter of Plasma detecting a change of resolution when logging in when there was no actual change. And using Wayland. So, something related to this, possibly.
I haven't retested with Plasma 6 yet, as I have made a habit of placing my icons in order, but I'll test that and see if it sill occurs.

Ah, okay, I understand. Yes, do that, it would be interesting to know if it still occurs, as I haven't heard of any other cases in Plasma 6 apart from my "incorrect" reboot so far.
