Hello there,
specs: Lenovo Thinkpad x260, Intel Skylake i5, integrated graphics card, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB storage. Bought in 2016, new mainboard with CPU in 2019.
Issue: Since yesterday evening, the laptop does precisely one of two things after I push the power button:
(1) Does not start at all. The light of the power button is on, but that's it. The screen remains black and I'm not even getting into BIOS/UEFI.
(2) It does start and goes through BIOS, GRUB, the login manager and into xfce. I'm able to use it for a few minutes, but then the screen freezes permanently.
Side-note 1: The batteries are fairly old, so one might think they cause the issue. However, I have unplugged both of them and the problem remains.I have also tried two different charges.
Side-note 2: I update my Arch system virtually every day.
As of this moment, the laptop is at a workshop and I am waiting for their diagnosis. I am posting this here in case someone has had the same distinct behaviour or is tech-savvy and has an idea what the problem is. This way, I hope to cross-verify what the shop-owner tells me.
