Hi,
I've recently installed arch (first time) via the base CD, ran pacman -Syu, installed xorg, then proceeded to install ati-fglrx and ati-fglrx-utils. I'm on a thinkpad t60 and have an ati x1400 and would like to use the fglrx drivers.
Problem is, startx gives the errors
dlopen: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so
(EE) No drivers available.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
then when I try to modprobe fglrx (it is under modules= in rc.conf) it gives the error
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.16-ARCH/modules.dep: No such file or directory.
Strange thing is I'm pretty sure I'm on 2.6.19. Where did I go wrong? startx also lists "Current Operating System: Linux myhost 2.6.16-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT" etc.
Not sure what I did wrong or haven't done? Sorry complete newb with limited ubuntu experience.

Hi no24,
try to reboot the pc
Offline
dlopen: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Could you ensure the package libstdc++5 is installed on your system? Also, you might need to reboot into the newer kernel.

i have rebooted several times, although I haven't done anything specific to "try" to boot into the newer kernal. just plain reboot. is there something im supposed to do?
i'll check libstdc++5 but i think this is following a similar error with modprobe another user on this board is experiencing.

ok got rid of all those problems, thanks!
Cerebral = I had to reinstall libstdc++5 even though it was already installed and up to date. But it did solve that issue. Thanks.

OK it finally works. ONE more question!
I had to install a lot of the xorg components for some reason pacman -S xorg didnt get automatically? I forget the list but it includes twm and several others.
Then I also had to install xterm. I installed the base system but no extra components.. mayb this was my problem. Sorry i'm completely new..
any advice on how to avoid that issue? is there a way to download all the apps from the "full cd" after the base system is installed? or do i have to get everything one by one as it comes up.. i tried looking at the pacman wiki and searching the forums but there was no clear answer. Thanks!

I didn't install xterm, I went directly to GNOME and GDM.
