[SOLVED] Both speakers play left audio channel on Dell XPS 9315

I encountered an issue on my Dell XPS 13 (9315), where both speakers were playing the left audio channel.

It's easy enough to fix it using alsamixer, but the settings don't persist after logout, suspend, etc. even after alsactl restore.

I figured out that Wireplumber was re-initializing the sound card with its default profile, and then applying its own settings. However, its settings aren't granular enough to include channel selection for the speaker amp.

I traced the issue to /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/sof-soundwire/rt1316.conf, and I saw that a single amp driving both speakers was not a supported use case.

Upstream has already been fixed, and the change is easy enough to apply locally: https://github.com/alsa-project/alsa-uc … f28bcfb320

This should be considered a bug in 1.2.11-1; I'll contact the maintainer but I'm not sure whether they'll want to include this fix or wait for upstream to release.

In any case, just posting here in case this helps anyone else with this laptop or a similar one.
