ACER HD User Facing Camera detected but doesn't work with software

The output of lsusb in regards to the camera is the following:

Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0408:4035 Quanta Computer, Inc. ACER HD User Facing

When I open any capture software they seem to not find the device, for example with GNOME Camera the program asks me to connect a capture device, the same happens with VLC. I found a discussion in this Ubuntu bug report that suggested to compile a kernel module using this C code in GitHub and then replace the original Linux module with that. I'm kind of new to Linux and I don't know what to do or where to start, also I'm not sure if this proposed fix is even going to work on Arch.
