Brother DCP-L2520DW will scan as root but not user.

I'm trying to set up a Brother DCP-L2520DW I recently picked up.
After installing the following scanner driver: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/brscan4
And setting up the scanner over the network with brsaneconfig4 I am able to scan fine as root.

However trying to run scanimage -L as my user results in the following error:
bugchk_free(ptr=(nil))@modelinf.c(464)

There's nothing at /usr/local/Brother on my system however.

FWIW: Printing over the network is working fine as user via CUPS.

EDIT:
Along with the error journalctl shows the following when running scanimage -L as user:
