Thinkpad t470p - what to expect with 940MX when I get it

Hi everyone,

I am currently waiting for a t470p to arrive and plan to install arch on it, however the system has 2 gpus, so its not typically what I use and the arch wiki seems to have an information overload on the topic

Can someone break it down for me what I will need when I get the laptop.

From what I can tell I need to install the nvidia package, install prime, then if I just want to use the nvid card for games, i need to just add `prime-run %command%` to any steam game flags

Is there anything else that I need to do? and is there anyway for better power usage, because I'm assuming with this wont power down the gpu when not in use.

Any input on this at would be helpful, since I have never actually used an nvidia card on Linux before.

Thanks!

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA_Optimus , the prime render offload tends to be the best choice.

If you're ok with only running X , optimus-manager is an alternative that can help to reduce power usage.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
