Logitech Lift USB Mouse Recognized but not Working

I have a Logitech Lift mouse, which lsusb recognizes as :

Bus 003 Device 011: ID 046d:c548 Logitech, Inc. Logi Bolt Receiver

By mouse not working, I mean I can't move the cursor, and clicks are not recognized, but the device is turned on.

I didn't see any packages relating to the Lift specifically, like there are for the MX Master series.

What are some steps I can take to troubleshoot this? Thanks in advance. My apologies as well if this is a terrible post. It's my first one.

Throwing the lsusb -v output for the device below.

Re: Logitech Lift USB Mouse Recognized but not Working

Searching for that VID:PID suggests it should be very much working.

Do you see anything in dmesg regarding the logitech driver/usbhid? What output do you get from

sudo libinput list-devices

and do you get mouse events in

sudo libinput debug-events

did you potentially update the kernel before plugging the mouse and haven't rebooted yet?

uname -a
pacman -Q linux

Also how sure are you your actual mouse is not out of juice, since this appears to be just the wireless receiver.

Debug events is not picking up events from the mouse. I just used the mouse in my other computer and it works fine, so the juice is good. I actually did not try rebooting yet, so I can give that a whirl. Thanks so far!

systemd-fstab-generator[135943]: Mount point is not a valid path, ignoring.

is concerning, what does your fstab look like? and the output of the other two commands?

Re: Logitech Lift USB Mouse Recognized but not Working

It looks like after a reboot + disconnecting and reconnecting the USB device did the trick. I apologize for not trying this ahead of time.

When you mentioned "did you potentially update the kernel before plugging the mouse and haven't rebooted yet?", does this mean a new USB device will usually require a reboot?

Re: Logitech Lift USB Mouse Recognized but not Working

If you've updated the kernel in between. What happens on kernel update is that the old kernel modules are replaced with the modules for the newer kernel. If you now plug in a new device, whose driver module is not already loaded anyway the old kernel (which you're currently running on) can't find the module it wants to load because it doesn't exist anymore.

If you want to mitigate this, either load modules you always want loaded ahead of time by listing them in /etc/modules-load.d, reboot more habitually after having had an update including the kernel, or setup something like https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/an … ules-hook/ which will retain your running kernels modules until reboot and clean up afterwards if you enable the corresponding service file.

If this is [SOLVED] please mark it as such by editing the title in your first post.
