The laptop is Lenovo S340-14IIL.
The camera is:
~ lsusb | grep -i cam
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 04f2:b61e Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd Integrated Camera
The issue is the following:
About 1-2 years ago, I could use my camera for 10-15 minutes, then the image disappeared.
For last ~6 months, when I try to run something that uses the camera (like Zoom or Skype), the indicator light flashes for a split second. Most of the time I get no image at all, but sometimes I get a partial ghost image that lingers for up to maybe ten seconds before going entirely black. (I took this description from another guy, my problem is totally the same).
My current setup is: linux-lts + xorg-server + herbsluftwm + alsa + google-chrome

I have tried the following, nothing helped:
- switch to linux-lts back and forth
- test camera both in Chrome/Cheese and Firefox
- both with xdg-desktop-portal (+/- gtk backend) and without it
- switch from pipewire to plain ALSA
Two people reporting the same problem, no one could help them.
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1476195 … a-crashing

Many people reporting the same bug on Linux (the link of the very similar case to mine):

Any help is appreciated.

Even suggestions are very welcome

Seems the flicker is back?
The disconnects have nothing to do w/ some userspace stack (wireplumber, your browser etc.)
Does this only happen on battery or also on external power supply?
B/c of "zoom or skype", do you use wifi or bluetooth at the time?
Can you try w/o either?

I do not use bluetooth. I use wifi only (have no ethernet). I tried 4 possible combinations of wifi and power supply, camera seems to not work anyway.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_ … utosuspend ?
Adding "usbcore.autosuspend=-1" to the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters will disable that globally but the kernel setting can and will be overridden by power maangement tools like TLP at runtime and therefore has to be configured there (as well).
