For some reason, my network connection dies after my PC has been idle for a while. From what I've noticed, it always happens after Xscreensaver kicks in after some idle minutes. It doesn't happen if I lock my PC manually with Xscreensaver.
One thing is even pinging loopback gives a packet loss of 100%, though in normal conditions pinging loopback works just the way it's supposed to. I haven't updated any packages in a while, and I haven't made any configuration changes in.
After this I usually have to reboot my PC, but sometimes the network can start working, with a considerable lag however.
From where should I begin to solve this? I've taken a peek at the logs, but found nothing that could help me understand the situation.
Thanks!

After it fails, open a console and as root type
/etc/rc.d/netork restart
If it resumes to work, then you know that whatever it is is interfering with the daemon as opposed to your nic card driver.
That may be a start.
