[SOLVED] Can't control brightness with `nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight` ...

I have a laptop with intel+nvidia hybrid graphics, and I was adjusting the brightness with nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight. Now if I try to change the brightness level (directly by writing to sysfs or using KDE brightness control), the sysfs brightness value changes but the real brightness stays at max.
I use linux-lts kernel and nvidia-open driver. The issue persists with a regular linux kernel with a regular nvidia driver, also tried using the 535xx nvidia driver but no luck so far.

acpi_backlight=video solved the issue for me.

With acpi_backlight=native I got smoother backlight control with intel_backlight.
