VLC doesn't offer "Video camera" as a capture mode

I'm trying to digitise a VHS tape by following guides such as https://medium.com/@bionazgul/the-adven … 2364bfefe1

All the guides say to choose the capture mode "Video camera", and then choose the approprate /dev/video0 or /dev/video1, etc.

The trouble is, VLC doesn't offer me "Video camera", and I can't force it to use /dev/video0.

What could be wrong?

Do you have zvbi installed? See https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Webcam_setup#VLC

Note: If VLC does not detect webcams, ensure that zvbi package is installed.
