Hello
Earlier this year I purchased the AOC 34" 21:9 1440p 144Hz VA monitor with Freesync Premium and for the last 5 months it has been working flawlessly.
I am running Garuda on Wayland, KDE6 and kernel 9.6 Mainline.
Over the last couple of weeks, I have very strong flicker on the top third of the screen but here were it is weird.
If I disable Freesync the flicker is still there but it is more white compare to the black under Freesync.
Setting the ARR to Always, it stops the strong flicker but there is still a very faint constant flicker covering the whole screen.
Setting the ARR back to Automatic it stops the flicker all together but then it will come back randomly in 1-2 hours or when I restart the PC.
When I am lowering the refresh to 120Hz it is less potent but still there, at 100Hz there are no issues what so ever.
Having plugged another 1440p 144Hz IPS monitor on my PC, I did not have that issue but it doesn't have Freesync, and I concluded that it was the monitor and I did an RMA.
I have now purchased a Pixio 34" 21:9 1440p 144Hz (165Hz) VA Freesync Premium and I have the same exact problem.
I have tried reinstalling drivers, all packages and searched the internet and tried several solutions but none have worked.
Such as purchasing a VESA certified DP cable, ArchWiki instructions, removing OC profile from GPU and CPU, various settings on the monitor.
I also switched to x11 and I still get the same issues albeit slightly less potent.
To note, I have found a sticky plaster solution; when the PC startup from cold boot, if I change the ARR settings to Always, apply and then change back to Automatic, there is no flicker however I have noticed that the PC will restart if I play a game for more than an hour (I crash to desktop). I have been using the same system and OS for the past 9+ months without issues and these only started in late May.
Any thoughts or guidance will be much appreciated.

So the subject is a falsehood, you've general signal issues.

1. power savings
2. temperature
3. cable (always)

Hi seth and thank you for responding.
Still new to Arch and my thinking of posting on these forums is that I am using the mainline kernel.
I will post this on the Garuda forums instead.
But to answer the 3 points:
1. Everything is disabled as my PC and screen stay on until I manually shut it down.
2. I have checked all temperatures and only a couple of months back I re-pasted all components (I do it every 2 years)
3. I have tried 4 cables thus far and the one currently used is the VESA certified (8k at 60Hz) which is still causing issues.
I personally think it is a driver issue and Freesync premium but I have no evidence of that (yet, possibly).
Thank you once again and please go ahead and close this post.

I rather meant the CPU/GPU entering lower power states, try https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU … _using_KDE
