3840x2160 @ 60 Hz?

Hi,

I'm a bit confused about not being able to select 60Hz for 3840x2160 (I only have 30, 25, and 24Hz), can anyone explain why exactly it is unavailable for me?
Especially because I'm able to select 2560x1600@60Hz and 50% scale (Interestingly here my only option is 60Hz, it doesn't offer anything lower, and anything equal to or below 1920x1080 has 60,50,30, and 24).
Shouldn't that technically require more bandwidth over HDMI?

I've the NVIDIA 3060 with the Nouveau driver.

No, you're rendering 5120x3200 but that gets scaled down to 2560x1600 for the HDMI signal.

Re: 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz?

Thanks, that wikipedia table now sparks a slightly different question, why isn't 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz working to begin with. The monitor and cable should be at least HDMI 2.0 and I suppose that the same is true for the nvidia 3060 even without the proprietary driver...

Re: 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz?

There's no "HDMI 2.0" cable, you need a "Premium High Speed HDMI Cable"
Also try the binary driver (or displayport, at least AMD famousely has legal issues surrounding their HDMI 2.1 support) and post the  output of

for OUT in /sys/class/drm/card*; do echo $OUT; edid-decode $OUT/edid; echo "================="; done

You'll need https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/edid-decode-git

Re: 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz?

At least the edid only advertises 3840x2160@60 for YUV420, so try the nvidia binary driver and in doubt force the subsampling.
nb. that if you want to inspect the edid this way w/ the binary driver (and in general), enable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting - use the "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" kernel parameter.

Re: 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz?

Using the binary drivers will be a bigger task...
Last time I tried them I only got a black screen after the login through sddm. And even when I tried switching from Wayland to X I had a bunch of graphical glitches. I then rolled back to using the Nouveau driver again.
The wiki page for the nvidia driver didn't help much in trying to resolve these issues.

Re: 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz?

Make sure to not skip any of the installation steps in the wiki and in doubt ask back.
