Changing user id

hello,

When i say "id", i'm refering to this number 1000, in passwd:

"me":x:1000:100::/home/"me":/bin/bash

I've noticed that, when booting with a LiveCD, all the home users directory are "blocked", but, the user with id 1000, no. So, one person that boot my PC with a LiveCD can view his documents.

This is not really important, as booting my PC with a liveCD is no permited, and the bios with password, but, i'd like, at least, how to avoid this situation. Ok, with "su" could be done anyway ;-)

I think, that changing the number in /etc/passwd is enough, as shadow and group refers to the name of the user, not his id. Editing that file, would be done via LiveCD, not with the sistem up and running.

But, if in the future, i want to add a new user, i'd edit by hand again. So, can be changed the "initial id" of the users?

Just curiosity :-)

Bye
