SO I checked the forums and all I found was a similar problem from a year ago, which looked like it was caused by an update. In my case the symptoms are the same:
I played some games and they had sound, I loaded up steam today and no sound for fallout 4. I tried checking for the correct libraries, but I think I might be in over my head. Any ideas? I will provide whatever information is needed.
And addendum, I'm using pipewire and I've seen a few solutions to prior related issues by switch to Pulse. I'm a Luddite, here, so I may need so educating.

Yep, yep,
That's what I did last night, and proceeded to save my bash log just in case it happens again and I forget. I meant to mark this as solved, but I got attacked by super mutants......
