I'm trying to hunt down a halt on my system.
It occurs whenever I do a "yes | pacman -Syuw" in a Konsole (yes, KDE). X simply hangs, I often can move the mouse but nothing else can be moved. It often un-halts resuming everything from where it hanged (including pacman).
I've heard that Alt + SysRq + various key combinations can print sync disks (+S), reboot (+R) etc. but I can't see any effect on my computer.

I'm using kernel 2.6.19.beyond2-1 which, according to the config file, has SysRq enabled.
Has anyone managed to actually make Alt+SysRq+Key do something?
Thanks.

Do you have "kernel.sysrq = 1" in /etc/sysctl.conf?
If you're using pacman-cage/drive, that may be the culprit for hangs. If I remember correctly the solution is to set dirty_ratio to 0 in /sys. Search the forum.

Hmm... I forgot about the sysctl switch.
Also, I don't use pacman cage but I did make the "caging" by myself some time ago, before pacman-cage existed.
I had a look over the forums and found this - I think this is it.
Many many thanks.
