[SOLVED] Gnome low FPS when using proprietary Nvidia driver.

[SOLVED]

Kernel cmdline was wrong. It should look like this :

nvidia.NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0

(Note that this parameter applies to Nvidia Turing+ GPUs)

It still doesn't feel as smooth as nouveau, but it's much, much smoother now.

[SOLVED]
When using proprietary Nvidia drivers (555.58.02-1) with Wayland session, with GTX1660Ti, using mutter-performance (regular mutter is even worse and more laggy), animations in overview, scrolling in app list and opening apps animations are stuck to max 60 fps with 170Hz monitor. However not always, it is very strange:

  • After opening any app, for second or two, animations go up close to smooth 170 fps (close to monitor's refresh rate). After these few seconds, animations go back to laggy, max-60 fps

  • Discovered by accident, when OBS is opened and recording, animations becomes smooth, close to 170 fps (monitor's refresh rate)

I recorded all of 3 situations described here, please make take a look, it will be much easier to understand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kT1XUm5CxA

Kernel command line parameters related to Nvidia I use (I also tried without them, with no positive result):

nvidia_drm.modeset=1 NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0

With NOUVEAU driver there is 0 PROBLEMS, everything is BUTTERY-SMOOTH.

What can be the problem?
