XDG Desktop portal forces Chromium dark mode

I know that there is an article on this in the arch wiki but it does not tell you how to change the preference for the kde backend, only the gtk.
When I input 
     "dbus-send --session --print-reply=literal --dest=org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop org.freedesktop.portal.Settings.Read string:org.freedesktop.appearance
      string:color-scheme | tr -s ' ' | cut -d ' ' -f 5"

I get the value 1, which means that the kde backend prefers dark appearance. If someone could just point me in the right direction that would be great. I'm not even sure how to go about this issue.
