Screen really dark for no reason after clear install

Hardware:
Pc: lenovo legion (~2/3 y.o.)
Cpu: intel
Gpu: nvidia
If needed I will provide extra info about the specs, I do not know them by heart
Problem:
after clean install using archinstall script the brightness is so low I have to use a torch pointed to the screen to read - I know nothing about retroillumination, brightness and similar, so not sure what is making thes creen so hard to read.
What I did:
clean install using a some months old image and archinstall script. The usb os had the right brightness, the (correctly?) installed os was really dark.
Maybe problem of old image?
Downloaded latest, put on usb, this time even the os from usb is unreadable, but should be booting or doing something since I can hear the fans spinning.
Extra theory:
bootloader choice is always perfectly readable, before and now, when booting from old usb, new usb and installed os - same for uefi, and I think that this excludes the hardware problem theory I had in the first place
Also:
The previously installed os had perfectly readable screen, broke after clean installation
