Hardware acceleration causes screen to stop refreshing (Cinnamon DE)

Hello! Not sure if this is the correct forum, and I'll try to make this more informative than "why nvidia no werk", but that is essentially the issue I am having.

Hardware acceleration DOES work¹, but eventually results in side effects. Things don't go to crap immediately, but it's almost a guarantee that after ~10 minutes, one of two issues will occur (depending on the application):

• The 2nd display (over HDMI) stops refreshing, not even the cursor is drawn. Unplugging & plugging back in fixes the issue.

• The desktop (cinnamon) does not render and becomes completely black. The cursor is still visible, and sometimes changes as it moves (for example, it may become a grab handle), but it cannot bring up the context menu. Switching to TTY2 and restarting lightdm² sometimes "fixes" the issue, but sometimes causes a panic so bad that the caps lock key starts flashing. This 2nd option is more common with fullscreen applications through WINE (games). The fullscreen application itself works as intended for it's lifetime.

Slight bump, I can confirm that issue #2 does not happen with Xfce when installed alongside Cinnamon. I also haven't been able to get issue #1 to occur on Xfce, but I've seen it in other places so I doubt that it's a Cinnamon issue. Is there a place I should go to discuss this with people more involved with the Cinnamon project?
