After update to pam 1.6.1-3 plasma desktop fails to complete login
After updates today on two machines logging in to the plasma (wayland) desktop failed to complete. The login 'spinner' kept going considerably longer than normal, and the desktop failed to render completely. After looking at the updates that pacman completed, it looked like pam was a possible culprit, though I could not see anything obvious in the logs.
After I 'downgraded pam (1.6.1-3 -> 1.6.1-2)' and rebooted, then login to the plasma desktop completed normally without further issues. So it looks like there is a bug in pam 1.6.1-3

Today I allowed four machines to update fully including pam - and after rebooting all logged in normally to plasma wayland. So this remains a puzzle as to why the issue happened at all, but whether other packages that were updated before today, after the original problem occurred has now resulted in a 'fix' or whether it was unrelated remains unknown. I will keep this open to check that the problem does not recur in the next few days.
