Microphone only records strong taps on it

I have a laptop with built in microphone. It was working allright on applications like telegram, arecord, even infamous zoom. After last upgrade It doesn't seem to register anything but noise and
taps done with the finger directly on it, as if it was strongly muffled  or something.

I have played with alsamixer settings, testing "Capture", "Mic Boost", "Digital", and "Internal Mic Boost".
It seems that the only audible change is when i set Capture and Digital to the higher setting. Then it records more noise and the taps are louder at playback, but still, it doesn't records my voice even if
i speak loudly directly to it.

My recording command:

arecord -d 5 -f S16_LE test.wav

And playback

 arecord -d test.wav

It may be a hardware issue, but I find that the last upgrade seems to coincide with it.
How can I know if its hardware?

What "last upgrade", which packages and which versions?

If the kernel, try downgrading the kernel, if pipewire try downgrading pipewire.
