[SOLVED] Random error on boot/won't boot

Hello,

I have installed arch on a alienware x16. The system seemed to work, but I would get times when the screen would just be blank after trying to load. I remove the quiet option and check the journal.

Here is the output of my journalctl -b -1

Any help would be appreciated.

you not have installed the nvidia driver corretly - refer to the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA
also there're several call traces - something's not right here

System was working. I have had this happen before, but it would fix itself after a couple reboots. One thing I noticed is that the problem would change depending if I had my charger plugged into the usb-c port.

Here is what I last did before this happed.

I had hibernated the system (was testing since I was having problems with audio when resuming). I rebooted and the system hasn't come back since

As for the nvidia, I followed that wiki and here is what I have done so far:

installed nvidia-open driver; tried the nvidia-open-drm (edit, I installed the nvidia-lts driver, not the nvidia-open)

removed kms from Hooks and regenerated initramfs

installed nvidia-utils

edited mkinitcpio.conf and added nvida nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm to modules

verified modeset enabled

enabled and verified fbdev

The system boot sequence stops at reached target graphical interface

I'm able to switch to another terminal and get the journalctl from there

okay, i went to the linux-lts kernel

I was getting the login screen for a bit, but without a session option (couldn't log in)

I tried re-doing all the steps and no luck, now I get a blank screen with a solid cursor

here is the journalctl file

I'm going to boot windows now. I have an exam on Monday. Any help would be appreciated

Hello,

I probably posted this in the wrong forum. I'm new to arch but had ubuntu. I've been having random issues with getting plasma to start on boot. Sometimes, the system will boot properly and other times it will crash and go into a loop. This usually happens when I unplug my power cable (ubs-c) on the thunderbolt 4 port.

Here is the progression of what has happened:

I have installed arch on a alienware x16. The system seemed to work, but I would get times when the screen would just be blank after trying to load. I remove the quiet option and check the journal.

When I switched to the linux-lts kernel, I made sure to change the headers via the package manager.

I'm able to manually start plasma from the tty, but it crashes on boot,

Yes, I did that, tried the nvidia.conf and then as a mod param. tested with output of the modeset parameter and was getting Y

okay, this took way too many hours out of my life. I just formatted the partitions (boot and root) and reinstalled and it's working again.

For the sake of learning something, was there a reason from the logs that plasma wouldn't start on boot (but did start when I would run startplasma-wayland from tty3?
