In the last day or I have had Evolution starting to run very slowly after being normal previously. Other network tasks seem unaffected. Evolution takes significantly longer to send an email, as well as refreshing the normal inbox folder for google mail. I don't know if a particular package update in the last day or so may be behind this change, but I can't see any obvious candidate. This is the same on all my machines with no config changes made of any kind. Is anyone else seeing a slowdown in Evolution processing mail?
I am seeing these errors in the journal though:
journalctl -b | grep evolution
Oct 22 15:29:54 lenovo2 evolution[1911]: broker.vala:159: Error loading plugin: libnuspell.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Oct 22 15:29:54 lenovo2 evolution[1911]: broker.vala:159: Error loading plugin: libvoikko.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
The problems seemed to start with this update:
[2024-10-20T16:25:50+0100] [ALPM] upgraded evolution-data-server (3.54.0-2 -> 3.54.1-1)
[2024-10-20T16:25:50+0100] [ALPM] upgraded evolution (3.54.0-1 -> 3.54.1-1)
Edit: After downgrading to the previous version of these two packages, the slowness in sending and receiving seems to no longer be a problem, and I seem to be back to previous behaviour, so there is something not quite right with the latest version of evolution, and evolution-data-server, packages.

I tried again today - loading Evolution and then it hangs for a minute or more with the lower panel message "Scanning folders in "Imap server imap.gmail.com"!. So it is very very slow connecting to gmail now. Does anyone else see this happening now?
With Evolution hanging as above, I closed Evolution, then found the process number for evolution-data-server, and then did kill -9 on that process. When I restarted Evolutiion it didn't hang on the same problem as above, and started 'reasonably' quickly, and gave the correct list of mails in the inbox. So there is a possible bug with the new evolution-data-server?
Edit: Evolution seems not too bad in speed today (24th Oct) - I don't know if there were any packages updated in the past few days that has made a difference, or if the external network and mail servers were slow for a day or two. I will continue to test, and if the slowness does not return I will close this thread.

Since I last commented Evolution has behaved normally including with today's update to evolution 3.54.1-3 - though I have not made any changes at all. So I won't post any further on this, but at the same time I didn't see a particular fix, or a related package that could have been underlying the issue.
