Hello everyone,
I recently installed Arch Linux on my ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 OLED (model GU605MV-QR047 with Intel Core Ultra 9 185H), following the ASUS Linux guide. I added the g14 repository and installed asusctl, supergfxctl, and other recommended tools. I’ve also lowered the fan speed to try to reduce power consumption, but despite these changes, the laptop's battery drains noticeably faster compared to when I used Ubuntu or Windows, where battery life was considerably better.
Here are the relevant details of my setup:
- Distribution: Arch Linux (rolling release)
- Kernel version: 6.11.5-arch1-1
- ASUS tools installed: asusctl, supergfxctl, along with others from the g14 repository
I would appreciate any advice or solutions that could help me improve battery life on Arch Linux. Thanks in advance!

What GPU arrangement has that machine?
Have you experimented with powertop ?
What sort of battery life are you getting vs what are you expecting?

I have my GPU set up in hybrid mode, so it should only activate when needed. However, I’ve noticed that the battery percentage drops about 3% every 5 minutes, and I get a maximum of around 2 hours of battery life, even with light tasks like just browsing the internet. In contrast, on Ubuntu or Windows, the battery usually lasts about 5 hours.
I haven't powertop yet, as I thought that tools like `asusctl`, `supergfxctl`, and ROG Control would be sufficient. I’ve also noticed that my fan RPMs stay between 700 and 1500 RPM. I’ve been trying to configure them to stay at 0 RPM and only turn on when the temperature is over 55°C, but ROG Control doesn’t seem to set it correctly, or at least I can’t get it to work that way. My PC is usually around 45°C, and the fans still come on.

The point of powertop is to figure what's actually sucking on your battery.
Ceterum censeo:
In contrast, on Ubuntu or Windows
3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

Thank you for the advice, ewaller and seth! I'll try using powertop to check what's consuming the battery, and I'll disable Windows Fast-Start as soon as I can. I really appreciate the help!

Please check if you have all power profiles available.
On my HP device i had a similar issue without having something draining battery and found out the power profiles were missing. After installing the package power-profiles-daemon i have the profiles and a much longer battery life.

Hello everyone,
I’m still facing the same battery drain issue on my ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 laptop with Arch Linux. I’ve tried the suggestions provided here, but the problem persists. I’m considering uninstalling asusctl and trying alternative tools, even though this would mean losing the ability to control the fan behavior and keyboard lighting.
If anyone has additional suggestions or experience with similar setups, I’d appreciate your input!
