Where is the kickoff menu located? I want to change its toolbar icon but I'm struggling to find out where it's located.

Context menu of the control bar (which is usually situated at the lower edge of the screen) => Customize => Menus and there you can choose the "Start menu style". Change that from KDE to Kickoff.

Thanks. I realise I should have been more specific with my question. What I meant was where is the app installed (ie. file path?) as I want to edit the default grey/blue image that appears on kicker?

Take a look into /opt/kde/share/apps/kicker/pics
want a modular and tweaked KDE for arch? try kdemod

Thanks. I can see it now:
kmenu_basic.mng
kmenu_flipped.mng
kmenu_vertical.mng
These are all '.mng' format which is not supported by the Gimp (2.2.13). What apps support .mng so that I can make my own?

Well, gimp can't read mng`s but it can create and save them
Basically, you can create your button in gimp, even an animation if you put every frame in its own layer. When you then save it as mng, you can set all parameters like the time every frame should be displayed etc...
For my knowledge there is no good editor out there that can open, edit and save mng's, i did a search some time ago and tried some apps (even under windows) but no success...

Thx funkyou. I understand now.
P.S. kdemod rocks!
P.P.S. I just downloaded a button from kde-look.org and moved it into /opt/kde/..., renamed it and rebooted. It worked a treat. KDEMOD ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
