Hi,
new arch user here, but was manjaro user for 5 years or so.
Trying to pair a Sony WH-1000XM5 set of headphones to a desktop pc with buitin bluetooth adapter
on a new arch install with:
gdm
gnome
pipewire (I think this is default installed when installing gnome, not sure but pipewire packages are on my system and I didn't manually install them)
[emile@archlinux ~]$ pacman -Qs pipewire
local/gst-plugin-pipewire 1:1.2.6-1
Multimedia graph framework - pipewire plugin
local/libpipewire 1:1.2.6-1
Low-latency audio/video router and processor - client library
local/libwireplumber 0.5.6-1
Session / policy manager implementation for PipeWire - client library
local/pipewire 1:1.2.6-1
Low-latency audio/video router and processor
local/pipewire-audio 1:1.2.6-1
Low-latency audio/video router and processor - Audio support
local/pipewire-pulse 1:1.2.6-1
Low-latency audio/video router and processor - PulseAudio replacement
local/pipewire-session-manager 1:1.2.6-1
Session manager for PipeWire (default provider)
local/wireplumber 0.5.6-1
Session / policy manager implementation for PipeWire
I got my bluetooth mouse (mx master) to work without issues.
Audio playback is working without issues via USB audio interface
I've read
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Bluetooth
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Bluetooth_headset
How I tried to pair my headphones device:
- using bluetoothctl
power on
scan on
<sees my headphones device with MAC-address>
pair <MAC-address>
...
<takes 2 min (exactly), and then:>
Failed to pair: org.bluez.Error.AuthenticationRejected
On the same desktop pc I have also a working manjaro install for which the headphones work and a windows 10 installation for which bluetooth also works, and I did exchange the authentication keys so I didn't have to re-pair when switching between OS. I can't remember having issues connection bluetooth audio devices or doing something special for the manjaro installation, tho I've had it up for a few years.
I also have sony bluetooth earbuds, which seems to have the exact same issue.
I tried resetting the headphones to factory settings and tried pairing first on arch, but same issue. After which it just pairs fine with manjaro on the same system.
I've tried to see what btmon outputs when trying to pair, I don't really see anything only that it times out when trying to pair.
the output of journalctl:
[emile@archlinux ~]$ journalctl -r -u bluetooth

I saw section "Pairing fails with AuthenticationFailed" in the secton "Troubleshooting" in the page "Bluetooth headset" and tried to pair with `btmgmt ssp off` and back `btmgmt ssp on`, but didnt seem to do anything.
Not sure what to try next?
