[SOLVED] Xwayland uses all available GPUs, preventing nvidia suspend

In a laptop with Intel integrated GPU and nvidia dedicated one, by default, Xwayland accesses all available GPUs:

$ lsof /dev/dri/*         
COMMAND    PID USER  FD   TYPE  DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME

This prevents the dGPU from going into the suspend mode (RTD3) - /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:01:00.0/power/runtime_status

When there is no X process running, the dGPU suspends fine, but as soon as Xwayland gets active, it powers up the nvidia card.
How to configure Xwayland to use only the integrated GPU?

Try /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and see whether the xorg log stay nvidia-free.
That being said: Xorg/XWayland allocating the GPU is normal, but should™ not preclude D3
What does nvidia-smi look like in the compromised state?

I often run a simple program that does not support Wayland, causing Xwayland to activate nvidia card. Also my goal is not to disable nvidia card completely, because it is useful playing videos, while display is maintained by the Intel card with optimus feature.

nvidia-smi always shows following process:

That's normal and doesn't prevent https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME# … Management
What does "cat /sys/class/drm/card*/device/power_state" say before, right after and a couple of minutes into the xwayland process?

The default setup runs in reverse prime on the nvidia GPU (despite not even any output being attached to it)
The kernel commandline is missing but the card order is reversed.
Try to add "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" to the kernel parameters  (this will block the simpledrm device and hopefully restore the proper card order) and also post

ls -lR /{etc,usr/share}/X11/xorg.conf*

It turns out, the program that I run without Wayland support, was reading nvidia GPU temp sensor, causing it to activate LOL.

Although I'll point out that the main log still shows X11 defaulting to the nvidia GPU.
Maybe try whether you can power down the GPU when running xterm.
